in verse

That this believed (that life be lived in verse)
curves earth’s slight rounded-down horizon peak
on parabolic bird-wing silhouettes—
their feathers tickle light and swarm all space
past four directions’ basic reach— That this
in trust relieves To See by beauty seen
with poet-licensed truth as joy ought live—
creative life no better trust could give.
But what is trust for honest discipline
in truth? Perhaps my poet-licensed bliss
invites bright wonder lives that orbits pace
in wish around a bright hot sun; duets
of hope and objectivity but speak
that this be lived: that life believed in verse.
