Who holds the mace to parade which or what
voices ought not romanticize
or else what voices ought
or what may be idealized—
especially when no one authority
caught up in molecular dance
has any higher claim
than each and any other chemical
compounded speaker’s voice;
who receives
such wisdom such might such insight
impugned?
While I talked to myself
I wonder how often
I censored myself
I romanticized
I spoke of such I ought not claim to know
and looked at a word or two that
requires something there
beyond what permission I claimed
or received
or both—
Whoever holds the mace
perhaps may be supposed to be self-understood:
ideal and righteous; flat; divorced from full—
who is entrusted with such a mace
with such an insight of a
creative life no better trust could give?
