Love Poem to my Daughter

Post by judih » November 18th, 2005, 12:43 am

a love poem to my daughter
serenades the house
her essence scents the room
the couch begs her to stay

She enters the door
and silence starts to sing
fear dwindles, life lightens
the idiocy of others fades into irrelevance

What is love
till this daughter arrives?
It pales even sighs in dim peaks
what is happiness
till this daughter returns?
a low thud in the sinking heart

rise, oh soul felt laughter
as daughter walks this silent floor
the earth is her living room
the sky her endless trail

thanks judih

going to keep your poem close to my heart today

trying to bring Rosie's daughter back home

to her mother's love

so hard she tried to make amends

for what was not her fault

maybe I can get lucky too

my sister needs a miracle

The choir
is behind you.
There is
no other beauty
as moving.

Beautiful cycles in this poem and especially (for me) in the sections above. Obviously, the speaker knows what love is--and yet it is constructed in a way that the knowledge of love is somehow out of reach. Beheld, but not held. What is love and/or happiness when the daughter isn't here...and the daughter isn't here because she is roaming everywhere...and everywhere includes here...and so i behold you and I don't hold you...and love is somehow retained.

I don't know what this rises up in you, but it is beautifully taking me all over the place. What a song to score the walk!

thanks to all for such wonderful feedback

today my heart is wringing tears for this beautiful daughter has taken off for Budapest skies and then over to the icy arctic of Toronto.

stalactite tingles - i feel like a voodoo doll

love is a messy substance - i'm a faceful of tears

What a beautiful, powerfully gentle poem.

Goodbyes are so fragile.

But I would venture to say from this poem alone, that your love could never really part you from each other.

I feel something cherishing. It feels really good.....

judih... even with your replies your love comes thru.

"(i miss her so - why does it hurt so much?)"

not yet... everything said
not yet... everthing shared
not yet... everything done
not yet... not yet...
not quite yet... her presence
always presents for you still
not yet... opened
not yet... revealed
love takes a lifetime
love gives a lifetime

I didn't value it enough
when Ma and the rest
of the family
packed us up and we drove off
to see Toronto

So when I went alone
to Budapest
I felt compelled to call
home from the castle
and send Ma and the rest my love
