Perhaps I should have told
when the sun goes down today
Yesterday's imprint of me
is all that will remain
No longer will you smell the scent
of loving you on my skin
My pain will fade
when darkness peels
away the anguish in my veins
Sometimes you have to fly without wings to learn how to live

I meditated on my veins—
how blue and shallow they appear.
I meditated on my veins
and traced their lines; they disappear
so musically, an organ’s mere
recital piece of bloody cheer.
I meditated on my veins;
I mined their veins of quiet dear.
