Is Germany beautiful in the snow?

Post by joel » December 11th, 2005, 2:49 pm

Is Germany beautiful in the snow?
"It's like a picture book

"I went to the American church today
because I wanted to hear an Advent
sermon in English

"and it's on the other side of the city

"so on the way back,
I got off
the subway and walked
through the downtown
and all the Christmas street markets
and all...
and here's a baroque church with marble cherubim
under snow
and there's a gothic cathedral
under snow
and the town hall spires and giant cuckoo clock
all covered in snow

"Wunderschoen"

Oh my gosh
it sounds amazing

"I take myself for plenty romantic walks"
Do you hold your own hand?
"Of course—
it's pathetic,
soul masturbation."

Whoa
Sounds gross, but it's a wonderful thing

Loved this piece, Joel! I always enjoy reading your work. You've got a fine style, my friend. Good to see you popping in here again. Always a joy.

Thanks to both of you! I am living in midwestern exile for a year  and enjoy having a connection to some form of community--and to be able to read through the thoughts and sights and experiences and notions displayed in people's work (and to be invited to join in the dialogue) is a huge gift and sense of community. Now, if only I could get internet at home so I don't have to rely on staying late at the office to pop in and out....

Sounds awsome.. :D
The tortured mind of this poet
is a hell in which to live
I design my time living in rhymes
incurring madness with which I feel.
