the line between smiles and crying is blurred in the country

Pistol remedies and the long fields in shadows of the sharp ridges.
The good ol' blood and blue whites the day to day and no complaints.
In the candy apple smile of hill billy happy, my heart flutters.

To have seen, yet to have been slathered with a pretention and cold,
as the steel and cement of bigger dreams;
To dream in simples and easy goings my faith more readily adopts.

Wear my lady like my skin and the hair on my arms.
Taste my lady like the shade under juniper berry branches;
And on for miles and back, 'til the angry sun forgives our impositions,
and butters the sky with it's pink orange tongue.

And on for dreamers and lovers and the makers of war.
On for the strange and sullen man with his dog; the cane; a cigarette.
So helplessly friendly; so unsuspectingly sweet.
So very there; and welcome.

Wear my bitter like a leather hat; made of something that was alive,
is not now, and is willfully removed.

I implore you, my love, retreat as my bitter shall; my leathery love.

The air smokes black birds and taps its feathered ashes over the wise ponds.
Over the green and brown and gold.
In that twitching breezy wild, I close my eyes to thee.

Wear my lady like chainmale;
Drape over my lungs and my heart and my soft stomach flesh.
Content me now like hill billy happy,
like that much smiling,
like giddy nowhere.
"I bless you, all living things, I bless you in the endless past, I bless you in the endless present, I bless you in the endless future, amen" -Jack Kerouac
