Come lie with me and share sweet words We Love
Each Other back and forth: sweat symphonies
of less-than-truth, but raw and gentle, calm.
Accept my formal invitation, please,
to lie with me. If honesty permits
love realism, truer love perhaps
is but to know Beloved is unknown
and maybe cannot match what love I own—
but still applauds the lie’s attempt with claps
of praise for lies true honesty admits.
To want your love, not honesty: it frees
the cynical belief I gently palm
to feel your hand in mine again. And these
I offer you: to lie with you, to love.
