Sidekicks....

(strummin')....

Now Deadwood had seen better days.
The liquor ran hot, beer turned to dust.
Bleak walls were bleached out in sinful ways.
Whores were too tired; the sherriff, a drunk.
They all boarded the short line to hell,
but for one man of honor, behest.
One day his conscience began to tell,
so he rode out in sorrow, a quest.

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --

He rode for forty years,
til he found Truth.
They rode for forty more,
to round up the proof....
God and his sidekick, Truth.

-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --

They love to ride chestnut horses,
on high plains, out to right all wrongs.
They agreed to join up forces,
sing their frontier justice songs....
God and his sidekick, Truth.

They love to hunt down outlaws,
rout them all, no chance to appeal.
They cross the plain, river and draw,
to win the West with cold steel....
God and his sidekick, Truth.

They love to rope chosen verses,
chase the prophet's last seals of seven.
They attend all the same churches,
run a fine hotel in heaven....
God and his sidekick, Truth.

et cetera....

(or something like that)

I saw what you edited out. And nobody is going to take it easy on you. :)

I wish I could jam it. I hope somebody more poetic than I am does.

Good stuff. It just cries out for more.

I edited this reply a lot.

All I can think of is.... where was I going?

How could I write a song? I haven't suffered enough.

They love a good holy war
And send children to die in it
They make lots of dough
And cut taxes for themselves
Let your grandchildren pay for it
George and his sidekick dick

Hah! You made me smile (maybe not intentionally) but I had to laugh. Does one have to suffer to write a good ditty?

I was strummin' along wit you
riding the high and mighty plains
on chestnut horses...

Just your basic "religion-as-a-horse-opera" piece.... probably a touch too sarcastic to be effective.

Yeah.... suffering: Not necessary to write songs, I guess. Except maybe for the blues.....

Then again, it does help with the country tunes.... (like when your woman dumps you and your dog runs away, for example).....

Thanks Soo and ST....

The perfect country and western song.

Well I was drunk the day my mom got out of prison
And I went to pick her up in the rain
But before I could get to the station in a pickup truck
She got run'd over by a damned old train
And I'll hang around...[/b]

Yeah....

I did kinda sneak in a train ref.... that "short line to hell" bit...

But I forgot about prisons, trucks, and mama.... this was more of a cowboy sort of ditty....

And the sherriff was drunk in this song, not me. (I was half-drunk when I wrote it, however.... hehehe...)

"half-drunk"...is that like 'half-assed'? Hee Haw!

Come to think of it all cowboys must be half-drunk to write a half-assed good ditty...

Cool Water

All day I've faced a barren waste
Without the taste of water, cool water

Old Dan and I with throats burned dry
And souls that cry for water
Cool, clear, water

Keep a-movin, Dan, dontcha listen to him, Dan
He's a devil, not a man
He spreads the burning sand with water

Dan, can ya see that big, green tree?
Where the water's runnin' free
And it's waitin' there for me and you?

The nights are cool and I'm a fool
Each star's a pool of water
Cool water

But with the dawn I'll wake and yawn
And carry on to water
Water, water, water

Keep a-movin, Dan, dontcha listen to him, Dan
He's a devil, not a man
He spreads the burning sand with water

Keep a-movin, Dan, dontcha listen to him, Dan
He's a devil, not a man
He spreads the burning sand with water

Dan, can ya see that big, green tree?
Where the water's runnin' free
And it's waitin' there for me and you?
Dan, can ya see that big, green tree?
Where the water's runnin' free
And it's waitin' there for me and you?

Cool, clear, water
Cool, clear, water
