Is it an allegory fair, when all
the waters of the universe were poured
before and back fair heavens’ dome, the true
event was but cessation of the tears
divinely shed for love of goodness made?—
the firmament, the dome of holy eyes;
and wet above, the tears already wept;
and wet below, the tears creation kept?
But such imagination prophesies
my faith, my love. So lay me down; and laid
within confusion loves and love’s arrears,
let meditate how waters spilled for you
might flood as stars the night—but more adored,
all motions held in trust for when you call.
