It didn't

It didn’t seem a poor idea when
I ran in sneakers half a size too small
I’d bought while on vacation when I’d left
my best-fit shoes some half a continent
away— It didn’t seem so ill thought out
when barefoot (since I had no proper socks)
I set to break new sneakers in with mile
on mile of sweat and speed. And all the while
I ran, my logic swelled unorthodox
as blisters all about my feet, about
the friction loci lovely imminent.
Was I at all aware how slyly deft
such situation metaphor would fall
upon my heart to muse your love again?
