Beware of love, if reciprocity
is anywhere demanded for its pledge
of pure validity. The highest love
by definition lacks a counterpart;
and disappointments mutuality
affords ignore poor love idealized.
But highest love is highest love because
it loves beyond the heights procurement does—
and love excels when such is realized.
Hold not in balance love’s equality
as equal loves exchanged, but craft an art
of equal beauty so in awe of love
received that love returned might true allege:
no partner matches such velocity.
