It’s time to let the heat escape

It’s time to let the heat escape; I slept
with you— an autumn window cracked against
whatever clamminess had settled in
my oldest night, my youngest morn,
my dreamsleep all anaesthetized—
and wondered: do my exhalations melt
to nothingness as vapor-steam that streams
away, as soft gray dissipation gleams
in starlight till the blank beyond? I felt
it must; and watched as love then dramatized
fragility as sighs (discerned and born
on heated breath in cold, dark night), in thin
curves, delicately turned in heart-shaped angst,
in movement-less-than-love adept.
