pouring water in the almost dark
from one container to another

today i saw a crippled pigeon
& i saw a crippled honeybee

is the merciful thing to relieve
their misery? honestly, a footstep
could cancel either flyer's light.
you cannot nurse a honeybee.
a pigeon is not something to cure.

tonight the local cats will find the pigeon.
cold or shoes
will solve the honeybee's plight
long before dark.

the pigeon drags its wing to the curb.
i do not step on honeybees.

after dark i pour water
from one container to another
to measure light by volume.

mindbum what a delight this write was to read.

so sweetly written.

a dilemma of sad import.

how marvelous of you to notice, to really see, to care, to be moved to write about it so touchingly.

Thank-you. Really.

Wow... a lot to chew on here.

My eyes should be this open,

and I should listen to them....

thank you both for your kind words.

i can only say what i see. someone said something to me once about bearing witness to what is going on.

seems like the thing to do.

this was one of those lucky easy poems. scribbled the first stanza right before bed. next morn sat down to the machine and spit it out. light edits a little later. and bingo. something i feel pretty good about.

i wish it was like that all hours of the day.
