If you were me, I’d fall in love with you—

If you were me, I’d fall in love with you—
and that’s by far no dainty compliment
because the concept of “to fall in love”
is thought and language I abhor. Amen.
Love that falls is uncontrolled; as such
I have no use for weak emotion. But
rationality, commitment, trust
and grace and faithfulness with passion must
qualify the steadfast act of love— for what
is love beyond emotive death? As much
as I adore emotion, love again
wants love again for faith. By fall in love
with you, if you were me
, I simply meant
that if you question you I love, I do.
