happy New year

Post by mnaz » January 19th, 2007, 6:34 am

evolution is a glacier, dead to january first,
the last precious holiday to sleep through,
and i could use the sleep.

murder is the same on tuesday as it was on monday,
and one sudden fragrance approximates another,
so why the random, impassioned speech, and hope?

Compared to earth, we are a blip. Compared to us, technology explosions are a blip (hopefully not termination points). Compared to "civilization", the clockwork of fabricated "civil wars" are a blip. Compared to culture, the periodic clockwork of culture wars are a blip. Compared to our miracle of consciousness, our feeble attempts to patent it exclusively are a blip. The leisure suits and domino theories, bogeymen, henchmen, and designer religions come and go, but our collective spirit evolves ever so glacially, if at all, it would seem... but then, consider my blip of a time frame to observe all this... And who says there is such a thing as "collective spirit", whatever the hell that is? Jeez, here I am, gettin' all mystified again...

What I meant to say was that time passed much more slowly back then,
and the First of January used to mean something to me, as a child, back then in those days. That's all.

Do you remember when you became an adult
that momment in childhood when your nervous system matured
when you saw darkly through that glass
when the last brain cell synapped into place?
I was 12 or 13, I think, and I'm still waitin' on adulthood...
And I think that might be all there is.

"It came to me one rainy august morning like a flash
we might all wake up tomorrow in a pile of smoke and ash
They say I was a reble till I reached the age of five
It was then that I got caught up in the struggle to survive."

Peggy Wilson, waitress, Atascadero CA, waiting on tables, waiting for the tables to turn.
