So do you love me after all? I don’t

So do you love me after all? I don’t
expect your infinite affections or
devotions—expectations, I believe,
are nothing more than disappointments I
premeditate. I do, however, trust
you love me—even if unconsciously—
and though I know you openly admit
your love committed elsewhere, please remit
me something true: affections graciously
withheld in memory of me that must
inform whichever ways you love now. Why
I care—if this is theory all—I leave
to your imagination. Love is for
a mystery—and answer it I won’t.
