full spectacle
dominance of my living room
no common room to talk chat whisper and
sing praise to each other's souls
no.
so it's a joke
fill all the rooms with smoke
watch and choke on all the
broken bones from all this confrontation.
pro wresslin' heroes
playing for american war heroes
it must be a crime
somewhere.
so you fucked her
and she likes him
everyone change partners
take sides
fuck talk gossip regret.
i'm going to stand up
against the wall
i hear you slam
stomp
down the hall
too many phone calls
doorbells
in and out.
i can't breathe in here
i'm dripping with sweat
and i can't hear anything but
jet engines flying tomorrow
and i'm
so scared i won't miss you all.
or it's the other way around.
but you watched and choked too,
nothing else to do but to sit around and
talk about nothing on and on all night,
hillarious in the smoke and haze of
so many passed days
and here at the end of the year
what did i do?
well we're getting all together now
time to unpack and unwind
watch all our stories combine into an
endless past passed on on and on all night,
no one talks about who they fucked
who's fucked
what's fucked
how we're gonna get fucked up
or fuck this system up
but it's endless going forward too,
nothing at all to do
here in the center of the universe
everything revolving around us and
nothing here.
so let's get lost.

I wrote this three and a half years ago, but I still remember exactly what was going through my mind on almost every line. I found it going through some old stuff, realized I still rather like it, and wanted to share it.

Thanks for sharing. It seems like such a personal piece--however autobiographical it is. It's also one that seems so relatable to life that anyone should be able to see a bit of history in it. It hits me close ot home in places. Godo questions don't have to be original to be stunning and I love the eloquence with which you throw it out there:
so scared i won't miss you all.
or it's the other way around.

I like the way you use internal rhyme and assonance. Rolls right off the tongue.

It may be autobiographical, as joel says, but it definitely has universal appeal. That's a powerful ending. We all move on. Everybody knows what this feels like, leaving a place and people behind, moving forward not knowing what will happen next. You put it all into well-crafted words (including all the fucked up stuff 'cause there's always fucked up stuff...but it's endless going forward too,
nothing at all to do
here in the center of the universe
everything revolving around us and
nothing here.
so let's get lost.
