Astrology 101

Post by sooZen » February 9th, 2005, 11:59 am

As some of you may or may not know, astrology is the oldest of the sciences and the most ancient of the arts.

The science of astrology (or astronomy but modern science separated the two sciences) is the map of the heavens, the position of the planets, the longitude and latitude of a birth or event . Now in order to understand how astrology works, you need to understand that the Universe is made up of energies and each heavenly object in the universe has its own energy. The sun and moon, being closest to the earth have the greatest effect, energy wise, of all the Universal objects but never-the-less, all large bodies and constellations have that ole' energy. Astrology is also based on observation, watching to see what occurs when something is affected by those energies. If you understand that everything is connected, you can start to see how astrology works.

At the moment of birth of an idea, an event, a baby, a seed.... it or he or she is imprinted with the energy of the Universe at that very moment. Because everything happens in a different place and occupies its own space....all is totally unique and nothing is imprinted with the same energies. This moment of imprinting is called a natal horoscope and like any event or human or whatever, each natal horoscope (the map of the heavens at the moment of birth) is totally original and unique. Even twins cannot occupy the same space at the same time so will have a different, tho similar natal horoscope.

Now this map of your birth is who you are, what your dreams are, what your inclinations are, where you live, your friends, your fears, your journeys, your appearance, your philosophies....all these things are contained within the natal horoscope. The planets and constellations are frozen in time showing exactly (with an ephemeris) where all these objects were at the moment you took a breath (or at least close to it) and became imprinted with the energies of the Universe.

This map of the skies is divided into 12 Houses and each house is made up of 30 degrees. Through many many years of observation, practicioners are able to tell what Saturn in Leo in your 10th House means. That is where we get to the Art of Astrology, the interpretation and that is only as good as the artist.

Happy to answer any questions...

I love stars and planets but I´m not a mente científica... even though I was curious about astrology last year and I ask a familiar-relative of mine (who is an astrologer) to do my natal chart. They never send it to me, I don´t know why...
If you want to do it (or hester- I like both of you-), these are my datos:

my name: Verónica Piva

my birth: Rosario (Argentina) , thursday 13 de junio de 1968 , 7 a.m.

See you,

Arcadia

I don't like to be the skeptic, but if astrology really worked, then why not use it to predict say horse races, sports events, or the stock market? You'd make a fortune. So-- I give you some sporting events or stock market info, and if you produce the right call---then we split the winnings, if you don't predict the winner, you pay me.

Takers?

Arcadia, my suggestion, if you are really interested and want to take the time is that you do this yourself. Nowadays, with the event of the internet, anyone can do their chart by just typing in your information on a site that does this for free. The site I use is http://www.astro.com/ Astrologers used to have to do the logrithms and other math and the science wasn't nearly as exact as it is today because of mistakes in the math were easy to make. Since I have a numbers phobia, this system has made my life that much easier. Besides, I find my time very limited and cannot do all the charts I am asked to do as it is. Perhaps Hes can help you out with the map. Once you have it, I (or she, I am sure) can help you with the interpretation.

By the way, one of the best astrologers (and I have told this story before awhile back so bear with me) was a man named Noel Tye. Noel was a skeptic and set out to disprove astrology. In doing so, he came around to being one of the greatest interpreters of the art and science.

Astrology cannot predict exact events, only give one indications of what the trends may be and insight into one's self and one's surroundings. There are those that are into predictive astrology but that is not my art. One can plan when to plant seeds, treat disease, cut hair, or a myraid other things when you know what's what. I have been studying Astrology for around 35 years and I am still learning new things. A new influence in the sky is Chiron, the healer, which just showed up in recent years. I am new to this heavenly body but curious as to what it represents in our modern age.

Those that disdain astrology most likely know nothing about it other that what they read in the Sunday paper...

Good luck and try it...it is the best way to learn.

Ah Hes, thanks honey but I must respectfully decline the offer. I would love to post here as often as I can but I do not want to moderate the board. I have enough trouble just moderating my own life... Besides, I don't volunteer for anything much anymore...been there for many years and I love just standing on the sidelines looking in and you are doing a fine job already. My craft has me on the road too often to settle down here and my studio and beading are not only my living but my passion. I just dabble anymore in the mystic arts but I am soooooo glad that this board is here and I will be able to post occasionally. Thank you for being here and I will be standing nearby when I can and time permits.

(BTW, I think Wireman has been turned off of the Studio because of...well, ya know...I seriously hope he comes back.)

Love and Peace at all costs,

I fear whatever that looks like exact events predictions, so it´s OK.
Thanks for the link, what I read seems to me very dialectic.
Saludos,

Arcadia, skepticsm is a good thing about anyones beliefs for we must all follow our own path (I think you already know that.) I never take things, especially belief systems at their word without careful and thorough consideration. See if this resonates with you, if not then abandon it for you will find what does.

Peace,
