Sunday Stream (145) ~ Seeking the Sought

Post by mtmynd » December 30th, 2007, 1:18 pm

Seeking the Sought
"Do not seek to follow in the footsteps of the men of old;
seek what they sought."
- Basho
Krishna, Siddhartha, Abraham, Jesus, Mohammad - so many more that came before, these men of old speaking of truths in languages of man. But what is it they are all saying... what is the collective agreement that all these men of old sought and attempt to relay to their followers?

There can be no one word that all will understand. Languages are too diverse - words made up of sounds that attempt to define experiences that only the experienced had. Languages come close. Often times very close. But we cannot follow the words. We must follow that which the words attempt to define : Truth.

But even Truth is a word. "Truth" cannot be understood until one seeks out truth within. This is what the men of old sought : what Truth is... what Truth does... what Truth says. Not simply 'Truth", for that is but a word. Those that sought Truth and achieved Truth know not anything but what Truth is, what Truth has done for them, what Truth says without speaking...

Truth revealed awakens the seeker to become that which was sought and found within.

<center>Electric Waves of Color

that's worth repeating
did the zen group this morning
first time in about 8 months
i journAlled my way away from booze, pot, and cigarrettes

now slightly clearer
sitting on my zafu
at first concentrated,
then issues started popping up
i got distracted
came back to center
more distractions
i remembered an incident in a meditation group i had visited several years ago
the husband of the facilitator had said something that irked me to no end
(he saw the movie "band of brothers" and was impressed by their loyalty, which i thought mainstream superficiality and tragic)
and i sat there with my distaste for him,
then remembered another incident a couple of months ago at work
a doctor asked me,
"don't you think THEY (the presidunce) know more than we do?"
and had gotten angry,
but now when i see the doc, i am no longer angry,
i don't attach him to that thought,
he is present and clear for the moment,
and we smile

new year's resolution is not just to have resolve to move deeper
it's also appreciating what has been resolved within

yo ho ho an a bottle of rum om[/color]

"drink to me only, with thine eyes"

perhaps that's the only truth
worth seeing
the perfection of simply feeling

words invoke so much or so very little

truth's conundrum: if not spoken it falls to man's own reason...

there's the rub.

Each finds his own path, his own way, preferably without emulation.

(always a pleasure to read you mt)
I used to walk with my head in the clouds but I kept getting struck by lightning!
Now my head twitches and I drool alot. Anonymouse

excellent, amigo!

To be one's Self may be the most difficult to accomplish...

Thank you, thank you both... and may our New Year be truly new and not just a new number to deal with for a year. ;-)

It always seems to get back to that, doesn't it? You know, the turning within?

mnaz : "...You know, the turning within?"

When we spend too much time without, within demands attention.
