Sunday Stream (193) ~ Recollection of Now

Post by mtmynd » January 18th, 2009, 10:56 am

64 years ago I took my first breath of this world...
When I get older losing my hair,
Many years from now,
Will you still be sending me a valentine
Birthday greetings bottle of wine?
Fortunately, my hair is still with me... a gene thing, I reckon.
If I'd been out till quarter to three
Would you lock the door,
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I'm sixty-four?
Quarter to three! You gotta be kidding! At 64 I'm lucky to stay awake until 11:00.
oo oo oo oo oo oo oo oooo
You'll be older too, (ah ah ah ah ah)
And if you say the word,
I could stay with you.
Note Paul's phrase here, "I could stay with you" - no mention of sex or even love making. At 64 it's really nice to have a companion.
I could be handy mending a fuse
When your lights have gone.
You can knit a sweater by the fireside
Sunday mornings go for a ride.
Now, Paul... you may not have known it when you penned this song but 'mending a fuse' is not the only thing a 64 year old can do - we can empty the trash, sweep the walk... even run the vacuum occasionally. We're not dead, for chrissakes!!
Doing the garden, digging the weeds,
Who could ask for more?
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I'm sixty-four?
There you go! Working the garden is a good and healthy thing to do no matter one's age... so feed me, dammit! I grew the stuff, cook it, eh? ;)
Every summer we can rent a cottage
In the Isle of Wight, if it's not too dear
We shall scrimp and save
Grandchildren on your knee
Vera, Chuck, and Dave
Nowadays to rent a cottage is only a dream, especially in the Isle of Wight... wow! Scrimp and save... that's on the agenda. But the grandchildren... well, that's not on our agenda. No grandchildren in our future.
Send me a postcard, drop me a line,
Stating point of view.
Indicate precisely what you mean to say
Yours sincerely, Wasting Away.
More like email me in 2009, but who knew? But it still is a cool thing to send or receive a handwritten postcard, isn't it? Wasting Away... hmmm, with my daily walks and careful dietary guidelines, vitamins and no excesses ... there'll be no wasting away just yet, I hope!
Give me your answer, fill in a form
Mine for evermore
Will you still need me, will you still feed me,
When I'm sixty-four?

Whoo!

[song by Lennon/McCartney, if you didn't know]
Whoo! No longer a question of when... it begins today.

Thoughts, those images than run endlessly in our heads, the mind cranking away as it does ... these functions may wain, and indeed do with age, but that is the physical brain losing capacity. But those thoughts, the very images and ideas that have driven us so long as we are here is the root of our being, the physical shell that holds the spirit which is our original face the Buddhists speak of.

The spirit within, that eternal light which resides in all living things, never wains, never extinguished, always Now. This is what it is to know and accept as the Absolute... Pure Consciousness.

Happy trip-around-the-sun day on your Sun-day stream...

Yeah, the Beatles, the acid years... beginning of the end for the lads, those records like Sgt. Pepper's.... Paul's tunes like little islands in the psychedelic swirl. You can hear that contrast on the rotating wild guitar solos at the end of Abbey Road. I think "Lovely Rita" was the next song after "When I'm 64", wasn't it? "...and the bag, across her shoul-der, made her look a-little like a mili-tree man"... Hah! "Mili-tree"! Just like on Monty Python...

Anyway, have a good one!
