Sunday Stream (209) ~ Who's Counting?

Post by mtmynd » June 14th, 2009, 10:57 am

Who's Counting?
Who's counting when your number is up,
who counts in the end of the winning
the lost numbers left behind battered
and beaten from the struggle for one
that incessant number that rings of more
ONE
has to be
WON
of loss is the automatic second place
without a face or a recall that only
wished to be not but a number
but counted as a player...

Who's counting the losers
the movers the shakers and groovers,
who's counting on fingers gone limp
from pointing down at those below,
a matter of perspective, detective,
count that into the vast amounts
accumulated for posterity - numbers
random and numbers granted to
those that matter and those souls
long forgotten as numbers passed
from memories alive in this number
we have deemed necessary to sustain
the count that grows and diminishes
like waves rolling in and tides rushing out
no doubt based upon some numbers
derived from calculations divided by pi
advanced into geometries of macabre
limitations associated with the Count
like Dracula whispering delight of the bite
the cyber-byte connected to the count...
the numbers collide in machines made
using numbers to decide truths over theories

who's counting when the storms roll in
and the lightning strikes over the map
on tv screens hooked to numbers that
amass the times which all numbers are

the turbulence of nine fulfilling the wish
birthed at one and counting up the downshaft
the mirrored One deceiving the receiving
with adjacent make-beliefs degrading
the numerical intonations tattooed on thighs
sighing the numbers of times the needle
pierced the flesh that lives thru numbers
only to end on the count of not one nor nine
but zero time left as the breath
inhales the final fragrance of this life
based upon the algebraic numbers that pierce
the secrets long hidden in ignorance
shadows laughing
out loud with the counting of deceptions

Number? who's counting today while yesterday
another one counted like the other count before?
Who's counting the counter and who's the One
that numbs the number to remove it's thorn in
the side that wins while so many lose in the
march of numbers calculated to win that which
has been pre-decided upon the count of more
beginning at
ONE
ending within
the mystery of
ZERO

Country Joe and the Fish... 'Electric Music for Mind and Body'
a psychedelic treasure that launched Joe and the Fish
onto the stage at Woodstock to sing the anthem of the times

Where do we begin?

Ha. When you think about it, the invention of "zero" was quite a remarkable feat by someone.

Keep on rollin', Cec.
Countin' on it!

Thx, Mark.

If my memory serves me right, zero was invented by a Persian back when there was a Persia.

Keep on rollin', indeed, until the wheels quit.

I always been a counter. I would stand in front of a microwave as the seconds count down to Zero as if I was waiting for the first light of dawn and a firing squad. Then one day I noticed myself doing it.

Thanks for the stream Cecil.

You are probably right Cecil. I can hardly stand up against myself.

Counting my selfs, we are legion.

I'd say that's a pretty good guess, amigo... that preceded by lot's of questions pertaining to the metaphysics of knowing. but that could scare someone off... 'metaphysics of knowing' may be a wee bit cumbersome to the average soul, eh? what can i say but stay honest to thyself. gracias.
