Say once one time too many and once loses its meaning, but I wrote this once - [first time out of the file]
I woke up this morning and had a talk
with Jesus and Buddha.
We had a pretty nice time
shootin' the breeze
about mankind and life.
Jesus was a smooth talker...
liked to use simple words
and Buddha was listening to him
all the while smiling.
We cracked a few jokes -
Jesus he was funny,
said that was a good way
to appease the Lord,
and buddha agreed while
his belly shook and shook
all the while laughing...
I had to ask Jesus about
this Mel Gibson movie...
he said he was disappointed
Mel chose a Catholic man
from Washinginton state
to play his part,
seeing as Mel insisted on
using authentic dialogue
and got his story from the gospels...
He felt it would've been
more realistic
to use a Jew from Bethlehem
"but he's gotta make his money back..."
his voice grew a little quieter and
he was silent until he continued on...
Jesus said it wasn't as bad as
Mel portrayed the whole thing -
"...sure that cross got heavy
and that walk made me pretty cross
by the time i reached the hill,"
his smilin' face shakin' back and forth
:and that crown of thorns was
pretty ridiculous... made me look silly!"
Buddha said that he had a
pain in the ass
from sittin' so long under
the bodhi tree and thought
many a time about
goin' back to his father's palace
but heard about some other
kingdom greater than that
so he hung in there,
"no pun intended, sonny."
Jesus and i chuckled about that
but they both agreed that
God worked in mysterious ways
and the biggest mystery was
how they came to chat with me.
I could only answer:
"It's a mystery to me.
but i had heard of people
saying that they talked to god..."
Jesus interupted - "Don't tell people that!
They'll nail you
for talkin' like that,"
and Buddha agreed:
"Yeah, I just called it
'enlightenment'
and told people that
anyone could have it.
I didn't have to suffer
the consequences of making
God my own like Sonny."
Buddha liked to call Jesus
'Sonny'...
seems it was an age thing
or it might've been
because of Jesus calling
himself 'the son of god,'
I wasn't real sure but
the way Buddha said it
it made me smile...
Jesus did alot of smilin' too
until I asked them both about
these religions that began
using their names.
Jesus assured me that seeing
todays big mess sure didn't help
things out too much in the world
but he was thankful that some folks
had taken his words and did some
good with them. "That's what
matters to me. but what disappoints
me is the stuctured element behind
the message i was trying to put out.."
Buddha continued: "... Yeah, the message
is not whether you call it 'God' or
call it 'enlightenment'... the message is
that all folks have the light within
and we all have the ability to attain
that light if we so desire. Those that
seeek can find true liberation from suffering..."
They both spoke of sharing
their words with mankind
but to be careful -
words can't describe
the indescribable thrill
of witnessing one's True Self.
I left shortly after that
and wandered around
looking for a grove of olive trees
or just a good old bodhi tree
so i could sit and ponder
my own being and existence...
I did realize one thing -
neither one of those fellows
sat around reading books
on 'How to find your Self'...
they just went inside
and found what they were
lookin' for,
and inside all of us
lies every answer
to every question
we could hope to find
to bring truth to
our own existence.
Once I wrote that was enough. It isn't something I would want to write over and over again... but then, who does like writing the same thing over and over again..? Once is always enough or else it just isn't 'once' is it?
But now that I've cut & pasted this once, I figure I can go on and write some other stuff... just once... that's enough, and it's difficult to write things but once, especially if all of 'it' doesn't come out at once.
Make each time your first time. Approach each experience with the innocence of the first time. In doing that once is always the first time. [Something I thought of while writing this... once]
