Sunday Stream (38) ~ Category 4

Category 4

I've been glued to the tube, more specifically glued to the Weather Channel and CNN who are as fascinated by Hurricane Dennis as I am. I'm sure their ratings are through the proverbial roof.

It was the same last September when I was following Hurricane Ivan - I was following every minute of the adventure - reality TV at its best. There is no better reality than watching the power of Nature... she is one powerhouse ("She's a brick house...").

The thing about natural disasters is there are no theories or opinions other than just hunkering down and watching it do its thing. Sure, there are those that ask the "Why?" question... it pretty normal to ask that, but the fact is the hurricane is strong and apparently gaining even more strength as it approaches its target - Pensacola or Mobile..? As good as our weather technology has become the machines can't say for certain what Nature is 'thinking.' Where the hurricane will strike for sure is till an unknown, although not a complete mystery, simply watching where its at now and how far it is from the coast when can predict with some certainty what area it will hit... maybe a 90-95% window of accuracy.

This particular hurricane is now spinning at 145 mph... mighty she blows... a Category 4 and so close to the coast. I also ask "Why?" I can't help but think of the comment from the 'Reverend" Jerry Falwell when the twin towers were hit - something like "God's revenge towards the homosexual" or some such nonsense. I wonder what he says about these hurricanes that have struck Florida and it neighboring states?

In viewing the channels covering Dennis I have seen several views of the damage from Hurricane Ivan (and others) from last year... still a war ravaged wasteland in many areas - deserted houses awaiting demolition some ten months after the fact. People still living in trailers provided by the government as they have no homes left after last years destruction. What do the Jerry Falwell's say about this..? Is God punishing Florida for lying about the Bush election? Is God punishing the Red States for following Bush..? Hah!

Nature does not have a conscience. Nature does what it is designed to do - change... change in order to continue on. Nature gives life and takes life. It is necessary. Nature has no human qualities like asking why? It just performs. There is no guilt, no sorrow, no disappointments... and conversely Nature has no joy, no pleasures, no thrills. Nature doesn't even have a memory. What would it do with a memory? Nature does not need those things. They would prevent Nature from changing, from continuing. Those things I mentioned are human qualities - 'why?' based upon our personal judgments.

We can easily ask 'why?' when we see the terrorist bombings in London, in Madrid, in Bali, and of course, the U.S.... because these were acts commited by ourselves - we humans perpetuate acts, both good and evil, upon ourselves... it too is natural given our history. It is also our nature to ask 'why?' and because some of our questions cannot be answered by our own kind, we ask a larger presence.. our gods.

'Our' gods... we take these concepts of what 'our' gods should be and attach 'our' ideals and morals to what we choose 'our' gods should be. After all God is 'ours' so shouldn't 'our' God listen to us and do what we pray for and what we think is the right thing? Stupidity! God is not 'ours' to do our bidding. This is ego speaking and ego lasts as long as the body lives. Siddartha is dead. Jesus is dead. Mohammed is dead. What remains is the Buddha nature. What remains is the Christ within. What remains is always what exists when ego is no more - the original face. This is what is more powerful than even Nature. Nature can and will give and take from us, from all of life, not just human, but our Buddha nature, our Christ within, our face before we were born is eternal. Siddartha knew this. Jesus knew this. Many throughout history knew this, and many now know this... Life is eternal, matter is in constant flux. We either accept this or we ask why, why, why until mind reaches Category 4... maybe then the realization will hit the shores of our understanding...

Beautiful last line...( I have to say that the storm-panic that I used to feel when I was a child still remains, different maybe, but it is).

Thanks for the read mt.

When my mind hits category 4 I am able to turn the path of destruction outward......

at all who stand nearby....

the carnage, oh the carnage I reek!!!!!

As for Jerry Falwell and his ilk....they give God a bad name.

That's why he invented duct tape!!!!

You hold him I'll apply it!!!

Nature....I stand in awe of it's power.....in fearful awe!
I used to walk with my head in the clouds but I kept getting struck by lightning!
Now my head twitches and I drool alot. Anonymouse

Gracias, Arcadia! If I lived in the area of this hurricane I would have a bit of fear myself, I'm sure! But if we look at fear as a defense mechanism, well we better get out of harm's way, verdad?

mousey - I got a nice new roll of duck-brand duct tape... clear at that so we can see his lips sealed!!

Hey, elRod! Yeah, I dig watchin' the inevitable, and being in the safety of Phar Lepht, where the temps have reached 100+ for about 20 years or so(!!) and the humidity is hovering around 10%, watching this reality taking place is fascinating. Of course we all know that global warming has nothing to do with it! Just ask Bush and his party-line scientists...

I would like to be above the weather... the view is unbeatable, but I do come down on occasion and dance with the wolves.

Thanks for the reply... and you smile has a touch of the sardonic to it... i dig it, it makes me smile along with you, you cantankerous, contagious old fool, you!

civilization extro bodily extenstion of our nature, another womb we are born into.
if I ever get beyond these words

here's a web site with beautiful hurricane pics.
http://www.nnvl.noaa.gov/hurseas2005/De ... -1kg12.jpg
it is interesting when you live in a shooting gallery, you feel like a pin in a bowling alley.

last year I remember driving across the bridge into Tampa with the waves blowing over, the salt water screwed up my electrical transmission box, whatever, I drove on in second gear, was prepared to stay in hospital for the duration.

I remember hoping that a hurricane would truck right up Chesapeake Bay into D.C., but that was before I knew Sober Duck, and before the Expos became the Nationals.

During my years of down and out, prior to my "reconciliation", I remember having fantasies of doing harm to persons of author5ity and/or large military equipment, and always had to deal with the primary point, the origional face, and it always rang through to me, just as it did when I was faced with the ultimate conflict, to fly and refuel B-52's in the war, thereby being an accomplice to the deaths of unknows below, and the answer was always the same.

Cultivating peace within is the first step. And Hurricane Dennis may give us the willies, hold us in awe, but the presidunce used the storms last year to his advantage, coming to Florida several times, showing his ham sandwich face, scoring points.
Plus our homeowner's insurance will take a leap next year, I am sure. And Katherine Harris will quite possibly become a senator, thereby completing the Republican lockdown on Florida.

I am more and more convinced that meditation is key, along with not-knowing, and witnessing. Mir·a·cles happen.

I was thinking about that when we were talking about head butts and you mentioned the colonel that you were ready to butt heads with. No body I ever partnered with ever spoke to me about WWII, Korea, or South East asia. Emotional storms, reconcilliation I think there is a NGO with that in its anme, the committee for reconciliation of the AFS. I wish Zen could get its foot in the door of the public schools, we could really use more eight year old zen buddhists.

our human nature, or more correctly My human nature is violent. fortunate son to have learned the lesson in grade school. I hope you are ok, last I heard it was on west coast, yeah sitting in a shooting gallery, but it wouldn't stop me from living in the Sunshine State if I could. Bill is around jacksonville or is that you I forgot. All we got here was a little rain. I miss the women's names, maybe that is sexist, but Camile such a lovely name for such a deadly storm. It did jim it came through Texas and followed the river valleys right into the shenandoah and into DC. 1969? many deaths, those wild rivers in the Virginia took many lives.

As I read this, a week later, Hurricane emily is on her way to Mexico, a catagory 4 or 5!

I have to think about your description of what nature is. Part of me agrees, but another part feels that nature is very female in its energy, in its messages, an energy I feel very connected to in my gut.....more and more as I get older, it's glaring.

At any rate, I shared with you the excitement of hurricane dennis last weekend in the safety of my living room via tv. I just couldn't stop watching, was up almost all night watching, screaming, ohhing and aweing, it was exciting and wild and truly an adventure. I found myself really wishing I were there.....

Great stream Cec,

Therein lies the problem of literalist doctrine....

Jesus is not dead! Ask any good Southern Baptist.
He is Lord, and he is in heaven, and he is watching you...
Life on earth is eternal?!?.....Blasphemy!.... Repent!!
It's still not too late for you, Cecil!

Nice read, mtmynd....
