Sunday Stream (76) ~ Wow of Silence

Post by mtmynd » April 30th, 2006, 4:01 pm

I'm having one of those days where silence truly appears to be golden. So much noise, so many words being spewed by nearly everyone... can't seem to escape it at times.

People preaching, politicians lying, and opinions running like a flood across the world... is there any escape? I ask myself.

I've often read of certain folks taking a vow of silence. I'm sure you've heard about that... from someone else. Today it feels like a good thing to do... take a vow of silence. Who needs to contribute more words into this cacophonous whirlwind of words? Nobody hears anyone.. much less themselves.

If Dubya heard himself he'd probably take the vow. The bullshit that runs outta his mouth is unbearable. Same with his entire administration. Don't forget Osama and his group of spin-meisters - their all part of the big problem - all talk, no sense.

It's not just the Pols, it's everyone bustin' out words to convince... convince everyone that listens that they know what's what. We're all guilty. It's not just politicians, preachers, treachers or generals. It's not just the noise of the written word - the media, no matter what their words are. It's just the words, the goddam words that just keep flying out of mouths, out of fingertips... damn!

Out technologies have spread the words like wildfire... look at this internet! In a flash words can spread all over the globe.

Sure there are some decent words. No argument. It's just the end result of all these words runninig together into an incongruous noise that's offensive to the head. The ringing of words continually bashing our eardrums have made us forget the beauty of silence. Not deafness... that may happen to our ears one day.. but the silence that lies outside all these words. That's a wonderous thing.. the breeze thru the trees, the chirpping of birds, the drip of water - these natural occurences aren't demanding our attention but whispering to us... peace, reality, calmness.

A vow of silence would be difficult... but it sure is appealing today. Give my head/mind a break... a much needed break from noise, even for an hour would benefit me. It couldn't hurt... silence is golden.

Shhhh.....

<center>How quiet your are!
Only the wind makes you sing -
breezes thru your leaves
your only sound

You've taken a
Vow of Silence
and you seem to know
that it's not the sound
but the ground
where you stand
that teaches you
silence.

If only I could learn
what you have gained
from listening
year in - year out
without speaking....

Why do you think I seek the open desert at times? If I had one prescription for the barking heads of the world, I'd make them spend three days alone on the Black Rock Desert-- that might stem the flow of bullshit (at least for a day or two)....

Speaking of barking heads, I wrote a little poem about them.... I only remember parts of it:

"The barking heads are angelic.
Their lips move like hummingbirds.
Their foreheads softly turn read.
I hang on their every word of redemption"....
