Vacating
I returned from a vacation the past Tuesday with my mate and youngest son.. We had traveled from Phar Lepht to the Nashville area of Tennessee where we left our son with his buddy, from there to a small town west of Greenville, South Carolina, then went to Holden Beach, North Carolina to spend a week in a large house, named Lothlorien (understandable to Hobbit fans), by the Atlantic Ocean.

Vacations are good if the frame of mind that accompanies us vacates all that's left behind. It's a wonderful feeling to drop your daily life and see and experience new and different places we haven't been to. It broadens our own existence.

But yet there's that calling we can't avoid after awhile - that voice calling us home to where we know our environment, know it's people, it's weather, the comfort of our own bed, our own home-cooked meals, our daily lives starting up again to continue whatever it is that we do that allows us to vacate in the first place.
_________
I recently heard a woman on the tv say that we live in the information age but not an age of understanding. So much to know so little time to learn. But is all this learning give us what we need?
Intellectualizing God does not offer the wisdom of knowing the true Self.
There are vacations which we can take that take us within ourselves... those quiet moments of contemplation and meditation that don't require high fuel prices and accommodations... just a simple spot that offers us the silence to turn off, tune in and tune out from the cacophony of our daily living. This is not something we ought to do but need to do. A luxury it is not. A necessity it is.

Contemplation and meditation is not ignoring our realities but takes us to another reality - that of our spiritual side. The physical and mental sides of us also need a vacation... a chance to relax, turn off for awhile and ease out... a chance for the spirit to be rekindled.

I'm still in the ease mode... vacations don't end as abruptly as the insistence of time/mind.

I got to the coast a few weeks ago. About as close to a home calling feeling as I can get these days.
