Picasso's Spider

Post by e_dog » January 7th, 2005, 12:41 am

The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place; from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider’s web. -- Picasso (as quoted on the StudioEight site)

The artist is not a simple receptacle; rather the artist is the spider, spinning webs. One artist picks up the emotions generated by the earth, the sky, scraps of paper, and the webs of other artist; from these she spins her own. An endless spinning network of spiderwebs of meaning; a web of webs. This is the not-so-secret secret nature of all creative culture (the overcoming of arachnophobia).
