I Need You Near (For What You Are)

Post by Michael » June 15th, 2005, 4:27 pm

Listen if you like.

I’m not looking for a friend,
I’m not asking you to send
money that you have to lend.
I need you near, I can’t pretend.

I need a drink when I get dry.
I need a hand when I get high.
I need to live before I die.
I need you near and you know why.

I need the love that mama gave
to her baby to behave
ten years prior to the grave.
I need you near for what you save.

Your love is like a lake beneath the summer sun,
or, maybe it’s a spring when April’s just begun.
But, you must be blind, yes
to not see your own kindness.
Then, I guess for you it was not fun,
was not fun, too much fun.

I need to find a way to cope
with people who tell me that dope
is what is needed to elope.
I need you near to give me hope.

I need some light so I can see
and where there’s darkness, I can’t be.
With my own feelings, I must agree.
I need you near to smile for me.

I need to see somebody grin.
I need it so I can begin.
And though happiness is called a sin,
I need you near to let me in.

The trees that rustle in the holy breeze outside
remind me of your idea that you have to hide.
But, it’s not so bad, no,
to sometimes be sad, so
you should at least attempt so you can say you tried.
Say you tried. Where’s your pride?

Though now we know the moon’s not far,
at night time, I still need a star
and something good and my guitar.
I need you near for what you are.
