Like A Million Years (Or So)

Post by Michael » July 23rd, 2005, 2:25 am

How come I have so many songs with parentheses in the titles? I don’t know. Oh, well, here’s another one.

I know that I compare musical or poetic styles of poets to whom I post replies to the styles of established poets or musicians. I thought that I would mention who/what were my inspirations for each song, plus add the instruments that were used in the song.

I just can’t keep anything short except, of course, me (5 feet 4 inches tall).

Inspiration for musical style: Smoked filled night clubs.
Inspiration for lyrics: The loss of my two year old daughter to divorce when my ex wife moved her 200 miles away from me.

It’s been a long time
since we’ve tried to see things
each other’s way.
I can still recall
all the things that we
used to say.
When you stop and think about it,
it wasn’t really all that long ago,
but why does it seem like a million years or so?

I can see you running
down that long dirt road I
used to drive.
I can see you running
toward me every time that
I’d arrive.
Yes, I’ve heard it takes time
to make all these memories go,
but why does it seem like a million years or so?

Well, I guess it’s over,
kiss you once more and then
wish you well.
Well I guess you know that
I’ve tried everything or
could you tell?
That’s fine, I’ll be OK,
if that’s the way it’s got to go,
but why does it seem like a million years or so?

I like the snappy breakdown after the second stanza. The horn is a nice additive. I wish I had the patience to learn an instrument.

YABYUM, I’m really happy that you like the song and I appreciate the kind words.

Of course, I’m thinking to myself, “Self, if he likes the song, why is he flipping me off?”

That’s OK, I support your first amendment rights.

Again thanks for the reply. Image
