I’m Michael and I appreciate having the opportunity to express my progressive political views.
What does “progressive” mean?
Well, I think “progressive” is a word that’s used today to mean liberal or “left leaning”.
Did you know that the “left” and “right” labels actually originated in France, after the French Revolution? It referred to the seating arrangement of the French legislative bodies.
I really don’t like labels. I think we get too hung up on labels.
For example, The Libertarian Party in the US could be said to be domestically “right” or conservative while being “left” or liberal in its foreign policy ideology.
Is an environmentalist “conservative” because he or she wants to “conserve” the environment as it is or is she or he “liberal” because he or she is a “tree-hugger”?
See what I mean? I don’t like labels. I think they're disingenuous.
What I hope you don’t think is disingenuous are the columns that I post here, probably weekly to start with.
I also don’t mind debate and will definitely admit when I’m either wrong or I need to study something further.
On the other hand, I have very strong political leanings and social beliefs. I don’t think it will take you long to figure out where I stand.
