Cool...

however, latest popular vote percentages are:

Bush 56%
Kerry 43%

It's waaay early, though....

yes, and that doesn't bode well, but that's only counting about 10 million votes

it's going to come down to Florida and Ohio

it would make me more comfortable for one of them to win by a significant margin in both the popular and electoral vote.

102--Bush
77--Kerry

no big surprises yet

Now, it's:

Bush 102
Kerry 77

There was some beady-eyed GOP spokesman on who said that
"the sunshine state will once again be in the President's column".
Oh really? As if it ever was to begin with. Then Brokaw asked him
a question about how Bush met with Buchanan and promised that "there would be no casualties" in Iraq. And, of course, this guy knew nothing about it, and even if he did, he'd probably just change the goddamned subject anyway....

Ok, Ok...... rant over.

As you were.

I don't understand how they can be projecting states so early.

It's not even 9PM here and the polls only closed 2 hours ago.

The system here is not even computerized, meaning when I voted, I filled out a form and colored in the little circle next to Kerry's name.

Somehow they have to get all these forms somewhere for counting from all the polling places in Virginia.

How could they have done this in 2 hours and be projecting Bush as the winner of Virginia?

I don't get it.

Can anybody explain?

I think some states, like Georgia and Alabama, you can call before polls open. In fact I think these states are already called for the GOP for the 2008 and 2012 elections....kidding.... sort of..... These states equate Democrats with Communist baby-killers.

I colored in a circle when I voted, also. But then I fed the ballot into a vote-reading machine. Did you do this also? If these machines are wired to election headquarters, that would explain the quick turnaround for results....

i did feed it into a machine, yes.

I didn't realize it was a vote counter machine...

There were circles to fill out on the opposite side, too... questions about Virginia appropriations for schools and rec centers, etc., plus votes on amendments to the Virginia constitution.

Does that machine read both sides of the card?

Weird, because they didn't tell me to insert it in any particular direction.

I hate this electoral college thing and I'm leery of how they count these votes.

Yeah, my ballot was two-sided also. But the guy said it reads both sides, and it doesn't matter which side faces up when you feed it through.

I agree about the electoral college. It has got to go. I think the rightful President Gore would be inclined to agree, also....

It ain't looking good for Kerry. Of the big three, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, it's generally agreed that the winner
needs to win 2 of those 3 states, all other states going as expected. Bush is winning both Florida & Ohio..... not good.
It's beyond my comprehension how we could actually be re-
electing this clown....
