over spring snow

little cow patch cat
moseys alongside me
then mews into weeds

eyes inside out
thought wrapped body parts
the diagnosis

mad dash to shelters
red alert warnings
then back to bed

she eats oatmeal
because most of her teeth
are gone

grandson visits first time
the year of isolation
closes its eyes for now

life interrupts book
admission this new morning
fiction preferable

today I visited the dead
left small stones as tells
why because bone hears

Rain taps the shoulders
Doves bathing before breakfast
I can love the world this way

hint of post-trauma
nipped in the bud
back to wind through wheat

house is still with me
alone to make sounds of life
there used to be more

dog begins suddenly barking
