clever as a mouse

a small rodent and I
play a game
of man or mouse,
he is a formidable opponent
like a tiny bobby fischer
has all the clever moves
how can this wee brain
make me look like a chump
we co-exist for the moment
in his determination
to out-fox me, I mean
out-mouse me
I kind of like the little guy
but he gnaws into everything I own
I guess
my brain must look like swiss cheese

this made me laugh... not with derision, but recognition. I recall a time on my hands and knees in the dead of night trying to retrieve from behind the stove a trap holding a mouse by the leg... but no matter how carefully I tried to extract it, he still managed to pull free, and lived to defecate on my cutting board another day...

splash of cream
brain begins to sync
