in my dreams i had straight teeth
i saw my grandparents
and my little sister had a strawberry cat
there were two dryers
and old word processor
and an indian man pushing mine and my exes luggage
my dad and older sister had already left
and they hadnt left a note
pop pop was playing around like a kid
much the same as I did
what a strange dream.

I am asking because I really do not know. Why is this a hiku and not a poem--how does the sylible thing work

Geoff, it's not a haiku by definition. I believe a haiku is 5-7-5
three lines of syllable. I hate rules. I write myku. A myku is a quick spontaneous capture of visuals. Like a dream. Another way of writing the Myku is taking a deep breath, then read. If you get to the end of your statement and you are out of breath, that my friend, is also a Myku. Or in your case, a Yourku. Get it?

alive and breathing oh so
blooming cactus blossms
past divergences, realigned
family, smiling and waving
baggage, given over to a spirit guide sherpa
way heavy loads
make a caravan
oasis near the horizon
