Tree Haiku Jamboree

Post by sooZen » February 19th, 2006, 6:48 am

I had a really good time at the tree-ku jam although I am never sure (who is? ) if I do the jamming correctly or just tend to branch out on my own. The whole thing was right down this gal's alley and perhaps was planned that way (who know's? )

Laughing a lot today and thinking of the trees. Here are some I wrote for the jam that I was proud of:

tracks in the snow
trees the watchers
a rabbit snowshoes

...

Koan chipping
How did the tree get up there?
Zen

(the second line may have better read: How did the tree climb the mountain...)

...

silly haijin
in the midst of trees
what???

...

silence is gold
trees know how
Listen...

...

doves watch me
from the dead branch
passing...

...

another world
a forest of words
fires!

...

dry riverbed
a river of stone
nourishes

...

leaves fall
bare branches in winter
spring forth

...

stones at her feet
a lonely pinon stands
forest mentality

...

pine islands
a sea of sand
fragile fragrance

...

carved in wood
a passionate message~
scars of love...

...

can trees see?
can trees walk?
no matter!

...

standing people
indian myth of wisdom
age has advantages

...

burning man
tall in the desert
wooden feet

...

subject to dis-ease
a pinon, far from the crowd
seeking the tribe

...

rat-tailed vines
encircle the oak
strangle hold

...

woodcutter cuts wood
haijin cuts words
burn it!

...

I admit it
I can't haiku 55!
fast lane haijin

...

fork in the road
branch out brother
limber up!

...

haiku tree
three limbs
basho bananas!

...

AhhHah! moment
haiku in the vines
climbs the rock face

...

bristlecone pine
bent by the wind
cliff notes

...

spider webs
pinon a loom
a lacy moon

...

yellow roses
crowns of thorns
Jesus!

...

gathering of tribes
'standing people' stretch
cloud hidden

...

allepo pine
a one gallon pot
sprung up

...

pomegranates
dried shells of fruit
bird ornaments

...

aspens shiver
white trunks in winter
leaves take a dip

(this is a favorite, i love the way this one turned out...)

...

the cottonwoods squat
along the Rio Grande
~ancient Indians~

...

mesquite branches
hanging husks of dried beans
sparrow harmony

...

salt cedars
cling to the river bank-
illegal aliens

...

clouds over the mesa
nut trees wave in unison
hello rain

...

limbs embrace
pinecones in high branches~
love out of reach

...

tension wires
above the American Elm
see saw

...

pine bark beetles
packing crate aliens
Ponder the rosa

...

dead tree
woodpecker podium
what a pecker!

whoa! That is haiku aplenty and I must admit to doing this for myself as I would like to save these all in one place.

.

I won't tell you which one of your haiku is my favorite. I will give you a hint.

Have you ever met anyone who snorts? I sort of chuckels through their nose. I very seldom snort, but one of your haiku made me almost snort. It would have been bad if I had breen drinking something when I read it. It would have been coming out of both my Nostrils. It was one you wrote when you and Cecil were swapping haiku together.

It was great fun

thank you

I wish you would never spare me your critical judgements on my haiku, I need to hear them. Is it a haiku or just 3 lines of text

He said
I ask
Teach.

Birds fishing
Crabs scuttle
I long seaward

foot prints in wet sand
gone with the tide
walker continues on

I had to google haijin
haijin link send redefine 6 thumbs up
Haijin is a direct romanization of the Japanese word which originally meant "cripple", but was later adopted by the online gaming subculture, to describe gamers who spent so long playing that they were assumed to never venture out of the house. In other words, incapacitated, like a cripple.
Rick's such a haijin he got to level 70 in just two weeks.
I think it means to be something useful, helpful, I am dam sure been a haijin on S* these days.

haijin I keep finding all these strange links that really don't have anything to do with what I am looking for.

like this one.

http://www.xanga.com/Haijin

Some kind of audio stream with it, kind of nice I thought. song called Like Mike,
That was by big fear for years, that I was like Crazy Mike. The youngest son of a youngest son, a mama's boy.

self emplyed
lazy boss
jackie goes to work

there aint no way in heck that can be a ku. I tell you I need to do my homework, I think i can learn my osmosis.

I picked a tarot card on osho today, it was the cloud king control, I think osho needs a new deck or somebody dealing from the bottom. COntrol, out of control, got to work tomorrow. Doc says check back in six months, with a little luck I will live long enough to become an alcoholic.

in a foggy freeze
my lipz got stuck
so I shut up

the tide stole my foot prints but not my feet

the last line was weak, you are right

I wanted to try and say impermanence change, fleeting but life goes on.

thanks

Tee Hee! or should I say Tree Hee! Figures youse guys would like the one about the 'pecker'.

yes...haiku has become my nature. I almost can't help myself. I see the moon as haiku, the sunrise is hai, the birds all ku.

I also love discussing being hai. I miss the ku discussions that we used to have back in the golden days of the Kicks where ju, mt, Panta, Beth, Josh, Kevin and others too numerous to mention used to banter and ku to each other... I miss that a lot.

Pottygok (Josh) was a strict haijin and made me smile often. He didn't truck with my loose as a goose hai's but was always gentlemanly about it. We'd argue rules and regs and it was Hai (Fun).

I have always loved haiku and Paul Reps (asked one time what kind of Zen he adhered to replied, "Reps Zen!") and the rebel yell kind of ku. A whip Zen ku, if you will...sweet, distilled to the fine liquor-ish haiku.

I thank you both for the comments for they are most welcome...

A person getting enlightened is like the moon reflecting in the water. The moon does not get wet, the water is not disturbed. Though it is a great expanse of light, it reflects in a little bit of water; the whole moon and the whole sky reflect even in the dew on the grass; they reflect even in a single drop of water. Enlightenment not disturbing the person is like the moon not piercing the water. A person not obstructing enlightenment is like the dewdrop not obstructing the heavens.
