From earth was birthed man
labored long and hard
nestled softly to her chest
Mother nurtured us all
From man is birthed death disguised
industrial giants
death cargo
growth everlasting
Mother she cries
Mother she dies

Yo ho!
It's a ship! Ship ahoy! God, what luck!
When all was so dismal. when all hope was gone
Once our family had nothing
We lived by the sea
And all day we caught fishes
And ate them, but then
One day we had children and then one
needed something, needed braces
or glasses, perhaps penecillan
Oh god, what a godsend
will you give me a job?

a orange boat
afloat
on the moat
beyond the pale blue,
a ship's tale of sand and sea
and shallows marked by bird tracks
in the wet salt beach,
slow and sure the boat goes
along the watercourse way,
the birds' swift flight in the sunshine
knows not the impending shadows cast upon the brigde
onward she goes til the setting sun
leaves her alone with wind, sand, and stars.
