Poetry puzzles - the Rictameter - add yours

Post by Doreen Peri » January 3rd, 2005, 6:01 pm

RICTAMETER

A rictameter is a nine line poetry form. The 1st and last lines are the same with the syllable count as follows:

* line 1 - 2 syllables - same as line 9
* line 2 - 4 syllables
* line 3 - 6 syllables
* line 4 - 8 syllables
* line 5 - 10 syllables
* line 6 - 8 syllables
* line 7 - 6 syllables
* line 8 - 4 syllables
* line 9 - 2 syllables - same as line 1

Here's one of mine...
Try it! Add one of yours to the thread.

Even
blind men view lies
clearly, though their eyes know
no light. Verbal fabrications
tear through fibers of a sewn garment much
more swiftly than the sewing of
the seam. We wear fiction
like a shawl, un-
even.

I guess
I'll have to write
another one before
anyone else writes one on this
thread of words which is only now starting
so here are some more words for you
which perhaps will inspire
you to write one
I guess

Doreen, that's a really good poem, even without the syllable thing; even better with it! I like the line, "We wear fiction
like a shawl, un-
even."
Heavy.

this is fun... try it, ok?

it's a syllable thing... a puzzle...

......... here's another....

perfect
nuances can
become a matter of
arithmetic mixed recipe
though never are there ways to see fire in
chance or matter, despite desire,
since nuances are just
dire scenes, so not
perfect

Like pranks
pace themselves in
juxtaposition with
purpose, music makes love as to
a new psyche teased with perhaps, perhaps.
a flirt to resolve. – Flats happen
when stalled on stark highways
under bridges,
like pranks.

No way
to find the way
to the way of a played
footpath; toes to heels feel stones tramped
by metronome steps keeping rhythm
with heartbeats trapped in vowels and
consonants which tap on
phrases which know
no way

Letters

~Letters
Falling to page
Entwining curlicues
Inking spilled in quiet thinking
Staining the journal of a breaking heart
Tears brink in tumultuous flood
Dilutes the indigo
Sorrow erased
Letters~

Okay, dor ... you KNOW just how to get me here~
BUT ... I think part of the beauty of the Rictameter format is having it CENTERED ... and if that's available ... I can't figure out how to do it this time of morn~

<center>for you,
because i care
to create comfort, ease,
i offer centering, from deep
in the core of your very being with
a peaceful flow of energy
from your freeing spirit,
because i care
for you</center>

heh ;)

Hi Marge! How are you doing, sweet lady? What a lovely verse you have added to my lonely thread!

Welcome!

I added an html tag in the admin panel for ya! Just make html brackets and type "center" and "/center" and there you have it!

*smooch*

Paper
cranes outnumber
flies organic swarming
through the origami heavens
still and statuesque while ever moving
mobile axis strings suspending
folded geometric
sails of peace-blown
paper.

Homeless
window-shopping
hadn’t touched my thinking
till I saw her dirt-cracked broken
feet and brittle plastic bagged possessions
overcome: her face shone back on
luxury. Can’t she hope
just because she’s
homeless?
</center>

I don't know if the centering thing here helps, hurts or doesn't matter. But I wanna be cool like the other kids. (Hmmmm...well, heck, why not give in now and then and admit to wanting to confrom once in a while....)
