j, wishing you strength and safety. i know that within that region, all groups and sects included, despite the news-"worthy" madness we see, there are thousands if not more perfectly glowing lights of peace and hope, in the form of people like you. so when i think of all this, i try to think of that, and hope and pray that you and those other lights stay on and stay strong, because eventually peace will prevail, but not without the hope of those lights.

I forgot what the deal was, why the army left in the first place. It does not seemed to have helped, it seems to have made things worse. More peope dying on either side than before. I think you were prescient with your Yikes!

Hard for me to read this through this thread, the things I said. But I will. Just picking it up with Firsty's comment which was the best thing I read here. I miss that guy, miss his writing I mean.

Interesting, Hamas says it prefers Obama to McCain, who says that he will be Hamas' worst nightmare. Unfortunately, due to his limited ability to see beyond his GAWDANCOUNTRY still wet nursing redwhiteanblue mommy slant on reality, he will also be a nightmare for Israel.

It will be refreshing to see O'Bama, the black Irishman, debate the redneck Scot (an I yam part-Scot, ya know, off-kilter as it were), about how to approach Hamas and Israel, beyond name-calling and deceitful inflationary allegations about their ties to Iran. So McCain wants war, maybe the US Marines will land in Gaza. Holy halleluja.

I think it was good that the Jewish settlements were abandoned in Gaza. Unfortunately, the impasse in economic and security conflicts is overwhelming what good can happen. There will only be more of th same if McCain is prez. If there is to be any amelioration, mercy, it will come from an increased Hamas internal security within Gaza, and a corresponding restraint from Israel. So how to improve Hamas' internal security over this obviously decentralised ability to make these rockets is key. Doing that will take resources to Hamas and that will mean building a bridge into their inner sanctum, not more threats.

For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.

hi.
just wanted to say that i'm hoping to have a blog where people in this area will share their stories.
It's called Let My People Know
and the address is here:
http://talkingnow.wordpress.com

After being with 12th grade students from Sha'ar HaNegev (a school beside Sderot), and listening to their stories, I wanted to publicize what they're going through, so that's the idea of the blog.

Hopefully it'll grow and offer tales that wouldn't otherwise be told.

very nice, judih
to see this in a more personal way
i can see that you have such community that would not be found elsewhere

how can the anger be lessenned?
from my point of view i know that inroads to peace will come when
deeper communications happen

and this will happen if and when america and other offers to speak with the angry ones in deep sincerity to break this impasse

so as i said before
mccain's "worst nightmare" scenario will not help you
and a slaughter of their innocents will not help either

meanwhile
may your community sustain and flourish

pretty remarkable

yes let expression of thoughts and feelings sustain your children
a transformation of trauma into courage
and beyond that
healing and prescience and insight
quite fortunate to have a window into your world
thanks

thanks jim
it's absolutely true - the only way to peace is to share stories, get personal, and promote understanding.

One such project has been going on for awhile. I'm hoping one of those students I was lucky enough to meet will share what they've been doing.
It's so good to know that it's not just wishful thinking, but there are a number of projects happening.

I'll let you know here when there are updates.

the story of "S"

interesting to me about her plans
seems to be self-assured in that direction
i get no sense of bewilderment
beyond the pre-exam nervousness
or the sense of danger

so maybe this is the reward for that risk,
a reason for being,
no sense of alienation,
rather, an urge towards fulfillment
