Fighting Like Cats and Dogs - (LRod & doreen peri DUET)

Post by Lightning Rod » January 30th, 2006, 12:42 am

god told Noah to gather them two by two
sometimes god makes mistakes like that
cats and dogs don't fight like cats and cats

oh, there might be little spats
and bitches over territory
but none can fight like the male and female
of the same species.

Noah had a problem on his hands.
Imagine poets two by two.
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."

Noah built an ark out of hickory wood
or whatever good materials he could find.
The instructions were not the legible kind.
He had to put them to memory after
hearing the voice.

Who's choice was it for two by fours?
Two fat cats can't fit into the same door
if their shoulders are the same height.
One needs to go first in the morning.
One needs to wait until night.

Sometimes cats get left on the outside
floating face down in the murk.
Assembling a variety of species
must have been a lot of work and then
there were all the applications to fill out.

Noah and his wife approved the ones which
were to be approved, no doubt, but when
they selected Poets to board,
it's possible the criteria didn't
make an iota of sense.

So, having a quota to reach
they matched them up by sex
rather than by appeal,
which is why some got a raw deal.

Imagine being stuck in such a vessel
having to step over all that shit.
The Poets aboard, unfortunately
couldn't avoid any of it.

Which is why we have both
free verse and rhyme.

Poets may not be capable of mating.
It's just a trait of metaphor quite similar
to carbon dating.

it's been forty days
and forty nights

they measured in cubits in those days
there ain't no mo two by fours
just two by twos in crap rapture

the flood is everywhere
no mountain high enough
life comes raining down

bills and medicine and
shit from other species
It's a good thing we are poets.

The most adaptable of creatures.

it would be easier if all a poet had to do
was to be pleasant and nice and all foo-foo
but poetry is about more than sunsets and rivulets
It's a dirty job that someone has to do.

It's not a job for thin-skinned nellies
we call on those with fire in their bellies
we stab the truth with a twisted blade
we ring the world like a bell of jade

we eat the hail
in bitter bites
It's been forty days
and forty nights.
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."
