The bridges I must cross.

Without bridges travel would require a boat.
In 1890 boats were the main source of transportation around here.

like a bridge over troubled...

Is one of those pictures the old James River bridge near Norfolk? There used to be a two lane bridge over that river. Spectacular head on collisions used to happen there. The girders on the top would slope down to the sides so that trucks had to hug the center line to avoid hitting them. Then they made the trailers six inches wider. Man the were horrible head on collisions.

It seems my mind is never far from the road.

I loved that bridge at the mouth of the bay

No land in sight

Driving across the open sea

It used to break my heart with joy
Catch my breath with beauty

No. I do have a pic from the James River Bridge of the ship yard but not one of the bridge itself. There is a lang portion of the old two lane bridge left that has been converted into a fishing pier. And yes, the head-ons were devistating.

There is a street in Norfolk that goes down hill to the waterfront. There is a battle ship moored at the bottom. It towers up like a skyscraper. One hell of a view when you top that hill. If I could live anywhere I wanted it would be tidewater Virginia or the eastern shore of Maryland. Or Morro Bay California. Ilwaco Washington. And the Shenandoah Valley was beautiful too. I would settle for Port O’Connor Texas. I hope I hope.

You are a lucky ducky

I am trying to move to the coast

Suburban sprawl makes my skin crawl

I know of the battleship in down town Norfolk but I can't for the life of me picture a hill in downtown. It is quite flat there.

Arrrr, if a bridge can't be found a ferry will do.

I may be wrong, I think it is permanently docked there, I am going by a picture I saw in the Roanoke newspaper. It just loomed up like a sky scraper. It looked like the view was down hill. Maybe it was in Richmond.

That is the only piece of art I own.

Yes the battleship is perminately docked in Norfolk as a tourist attraction and I'm sure there is no battleship in Richmond, not enough water. The next closest battleship, The Willmington I believe is in North Carolinia.

Some build walls.
No problem.
Turn a wall sideways.
Walk on over it.
Bridge the gap.

a far as you can throw a stone
that's how far i am
one shore away
and somewhere in between

cross the abyss
walk on suspended steel
papa's arms will hold you
slide over and mama is there

mankind builds bridges
humans have only to see how close we are.

Where's that confounded bridge.
Story of my life. If it's a bridge over water with no escape I'll get stuck on it.
