open source desktop publishing

this looks pretty cool. it takes a bit to install, but nothing very serious; the instructions are clear and simple.

what appeals to me about this is its flexibility and the fact that it's free and the fact that it seems more well suited to sensible customization, unlike something like quark. it might be perfect for creating booklets, ie chapbooks, or DIY books.

microsoft publisher has been my tool for the past 2 or 3 chapbooks, but it is a temperamental little devil. It shifts pages and if a printing is stopped halfway - it doesn't hold the same format when i try to re-start. That is, once the format is created and saved, there's no guarantee that a page will remain that same page down the road.

If you or anyone else has conquered these quirks, i praise you.

And so, off to check out your recommendation.
