Kerouac's Windblown World
Kerouac's Windblown World
recently published collection of journals by Kerouac during 1947-54. some very interesting discoveries to be found there. for example, Kerouac's self-confidence in his quest to be a famous and successful writer is quite apparent in the early On the Road writing days, and more importantly the Christian element in his reflections is most striking, far more than in his novels. this was a largely pre-Buddhist phase for kerouac and the theistic aspects of his thinking are quite dominant. perhaps, he was using the notebooks as like a prayer book, verbally putting pious thoughts to page but it is very interesting.
I don't think 'Therefore, I am.' Therefore, I am.
some of Kerouac's journal writing from 1949 is absolutely incredible. this is the mystical Kerouac, both frustrated with the world and enthusiastic, both cocky about his writerliness and uncertain of it at the same time. struggling and digging life and its creative work.
I don't think 'Therefore, I am.' Therefore, I am.
