I havent really talked to anyone about this, but about three months ago I got a dvd burner on sale with the hope that I would soon master the technical arts of securing and burning to discs good films to watch and share with my friends..."Soon" wasn't an opertative word in this quest though...the process mystified me compared to the familiar audio files I was used to downloading and burning-but as luck would have it, persistence paid off and now I've learned how to do it(mostly), able to get the sound track in sync with the action/lips of the actors, etc. It's a hell of a lot of fun and if you know where to look you'll find high quality brand spanking new films that are still in the theaters or very soon to be released to dvd....of course, getting these is free, I wouldn't monkey with it if it wasnt. The past couple of months I've taken down new block busters and venerable classics-all kinds of stuff--Was able to get most of the ones up for Acadmey Awards and watch them at home and pick winners and favorites--films like Last King Of Scotland, Babel, The Departed, The Queen, Flags Of Our Fathers, Children Of Men, and even got a decent copy of Letters From Iwo Jima, though it is in Japanese, which hasnt even been seen in the U.S yet, I think.... Oh, I suppose their some legal hassle involved..I cant believe the studios and producers of the big movies are all that warm and fuzzy about their expensive movies being given away to anyone who wants them just by pushing a couple of buttons on the PC, and I've read some scarey stuff about people getting busted for making lots of copies for profit type stuff. But never heard of any just old geezer like me get popped for taking a film down and watching it or giving a few copies away....What gets me is how the free sites that make these films available through bittorrent avoid the wrath of the movie companies? One site I download from sustained a damaging database erasing attack from somebody in an attempt to stop the product from getting to the people. But they were up and running doing free business as usual in a couple of days. So, I don't know what the liability is or where the trouble lays. All I know is I dig getting new movies for nothing.
Here's a site that gives them up for grabs...
http://spynova.org
or
http://spynova.org/top.php?sid=2
or this one will bring a page where you can select by genre
http://www.spynova.org/category.php?cid=4
I check that one and a couple of others every other day or so to see what's on the menu. These are'nt cheap copies or films recorded in a theater over a cellphone cam but top quality goods.
Just wondering if anyone else in S8 land is doing this or if I'm sort'a the lone gunman.
