I've been posting lately on a Cthulhu-mythos related message board. The folks there have got wind of this movie and have almost unilaterally begun lambasting it -- Lovecraft fans can be very cruel and unforgiving -- mostly because of a queer subtext introduced into the story that isn't present in the source material (although it could be extrapolated from it).

Those guys with the weird lips -- are those Deep Ones?

and on a tangent -- the video game I mentioned earlier in the thread finally did come out late last year, and it is EXCELLENT. Just recently a PC version was also released.
(something I'd be very happy to see on S8 is discussion about video games from an artistic perspective. A lot of people don't think about video games as an art form, but they really are (this "Call of Cthulhu" game is a fine example). I plan to write an article on the topic at some point. But I don't see any sort of discussion on the topic really happening here; I think I'm the only gamer around)

Let me assure you, they probably have several very sound reasons to do so.

Oh yes.
Just two of HUNDREDS that will leave you writhing in horror as this sure to be classic tasteless turkey reaches it's terrifying climax.

Something happens to sf writers as they age:

Isaac Asimov, a great writer and a man who has given me hundreds of hours of pleasure wrote a late sf novel in which he calls somewhat disembodied characters ( who can conceive) "The Hard Ones."

One might conjecture that "The Limp Ones" can't conceive, but he gives them another name, "The Soft Ones."

"The Gods Themselves" has a more complex plot and scientific underpinning than I am funning with, of course.

HA! well, Dave, I hope it makes it to a big screen near you- And ya better make the first night it plays, cuz it's likely there'll be some kind'a violent revolt from theater patrons making a second night nigh on impossible.

Well, these reviews of the trailer sure are encouraging.

It's obvious that this film reaches inside of the viewer and prompts strong emotional responses. That's a very good sign!
