Grey Gardens

I've been ignorant or unaware of this film for the past 32 years-maybe because when it came out a documentary about a mother near 80 and her daughter nearing 60 on the east coast held no particular interest to a 25 year old west coast kid...But now with the hoopla surrounding the Broadway musical Grey Gardens my curiosity was piqued and tweaked enough to seek out a download of the 1975 Maysles Brothers film and give it a couple of good looks. Glad I did, for Grey Gardens is a very bizarre curio from a bygone era--the main subjects, Big Edie and Little Edie, will both want to make you shut the dvd player off and enter their skewered realm at the same time-the ultimate chick-flick. A fascinating film from start to finish.

They are relatives of Jackie O is what I heard. Although I've not seen the movie but judging by the pic it looks like the Maysles brothers captured a Miss Havishamesque like way. These are the same guys who did "Gimme Shelter".

Oh, it's a true life documentary....not to be confused with the current hit Broadway musical of the same title which employs some artistic license not evident in the film....

there is also a follow up film made some 35 or 30 years after the original-made up of unused footage and out takes from the original production-it's called The Beales Of Grey Gardens and I highly recommend both

Are both of those films together or are they separate?
