Sull'oceano - Edmondo D'Amicis

Post by Arcadia » September 2nd, 2007, 8:25 pm

yeah. The same author of 1886 "Cuore", the lacrimogenic, nationalistic, ejemplificadora and bit sadistic novel for "kids, parents, teachers and every sensitive reader" in the author´s own words. (when I was a kid I found the book horrible and now I realize that I prefered Salgari!)

this text is more interesting. Something like a crónica from a trip in the Galileo from Genova to Montevideo at the end of XIX century. My grandfather did a similar travel also via Genova but in 1920. He was 20 at that time, so he remembered the travel well and wanted to talk about it from time to time. Lot of similar things despite the temporal gap. With the difference that my grandfather was in third class and was very young and didn´t talk about "the third class show" as the narrator of sull´.... did.

I´m beggining chapter 3. It sounds good in italian (language I can read very well but not talk... weird!)
