Desert memories - Ariel Dorfman

I read by him some time ago parts of "how to read Donald Duck". Last week searching for books for Cristmas gifts two books crossed my way. One of them Dorfman´s "Desert memories" in the mesa de editorial saldos ( so I bought it!); the other one Pasolini´s "The smell of India" (it´s still in the bookstore I guess).
The book have journal format, a kind of inram to the chilean norte grande of the salitretras plus an emotional-time-travel to Chile´s history and people (maybe with a somehow indefinible aristocratic touch in Dorfman´s voice)
I revisited reading it a mix of Valparaiso-street-musicians, Sabella, Arguedas, Quilapayún, Jara, Bayer, La Forestal & Jodorowsky´s wave.
