One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
I started reading it for the first time this morning, after reading about reading it countless times.

It's a really great book, yep!
Now that you've read it, go out and rent the movie.
Jack Nicholson did a fabulous job as McMurphy and Louise Fletcher was just excellent as Nurse Ratchet! The Billy character was also portrayed perfectly!
I read the book 2 times but I've seen the film like 10 times. Yeah, I'm obsessed! LOL!
But it's *that* good. It was one of the most true-to-the-book films I've ever seen.
Go watch! You'll be glad you did!

Yeah, I heard that Kesey didn't care for the movie.
But you say he never saw it and so if he never saw it, how could he not care for it?
and how could he not like Jack Nicholson in the McMurphy role if he never saw it?
strange.
I thought the film was excellent and a perfect representation of the novel....

It's a decent movie, but if you have read the book fairly closely you might remember the native---Chief in the movie--is far more important. It became a Jack Nicholson star vehicle. Kesey did not approve of Nicholson and the screenwriters did alter the book in many respects. I did enjoy the movie regardless of Jack N.--the most overrated hack thespian-carny of the last 30 years--Fletcher's Nurse Ratched is great. However, I think the movie misses some of the books' magic and lyricism, and the theme-- the madmen individualists against the state behaviorist-bureaucracy thing-- is lost because of the hammy acting of Jacko.
