This is Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan's first flick together, and it is written and directed by the playwright John Patrick Shanley. It has some of the most wondeful dialogue combined with very pretty and varied imagery, and some priceless moments of random humor.
I have watched this movie close to fifty times and I still love it.
It also has priceless cameos by Ossie Davis and Lloyd Bridges.
Has anybody else seen this ?
Joe Versus the Volcano
it is very funny and a cool scenario to exemplify the idea of living one's life to the fullest, cutting loose. takinga stand etc. etc.
as the actor-philosopher James Dean is said to have said: Live life like you will die tomorrow, dream like you will live forever. or something like that.

I don't think 'Therefore, I am.' Therefore, I am.
Joe vs. the Volcano was amusing if sentimental, though Tom Hanks is not everyone's idea of a comic genius. TO be honest, he's a hammy, overrated hack. But, eh, then so are 95% of "actors" in Ho-wood....
Hanks' performance in Saving Private Ryan was simply not believable. Forest Gump, maybe , Sergeant Rock, no way.
I guess he's no worse than Kevin Spacey, Movieland's favorite jag-off. I did enjoy Ameircan Booty, however, or at least the scenes with Benning, and Benning nude was even tastier....
It's a pretty sad state of affairs when the only real comic thespian to be found is a conservative hack such as Kelsey Grammer, America's latest Bob Hope replicant....
Bring back the Griswalds!

I think that Hanks has done very well in a few movies: Big, Cast Away (though it was a poorly executed production), and I may be sentimental nerd, but I love Forrest Gump, and he gave a pretty witty performance in Nora Ephron's 'You've Got Mail.'
I thought his performance in Private Ryan was mediocre, though. And he was flat-out dull in 'Road to Perdition.' And he really let his accent carry his performance too much in "Catch Me if You Can," so you, perezeso, have a pretty good point about him overall.
As for Spacey, I thought he was okay in two movies I dsliked: Shipping news and K-Pax, and haven't seen any of his other stuff, so I might not be able to make a great judgement on him.
