new film, starring Sean Penn, directed by N. Mueller.

this is a fine work, sort of a cross between Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman and Dostoyevski's Crime n Punishment, but it's based on a "true" story.

Penn gives one of the best performances of career, better than the overacting jobs for which he gets most aclaim.

this movie is a must see for existentialists, Marxists and basically anybody pissed off about their job or life. really interesting study of frustration, alienation, and resentment in modern society, how a moral critique of injustice as radicalism turns into blind rage if not incorporated into an organized political movement. a warning, expressing the danger of obsessions even if seemingly reasoned, and the need for expressive outlets or interconnection, be it creative, productive or interpersonal.

Is this a movie or a student philosophy paper?

there is a movie of the title.

i was trying to interpret it in terms of philosophic themes, but that is my imputation onto the film, not claiming that filmmakers 'd agree.

whatever; see it if it comes to a theatre near u, but i think this one will be very limited release, because 'dangerous.'
