this fantastic movie starring hope davis and paul giamatti is a great look into the world of Harvey Pekar, celbrated underground comic book writer and jazz enthusiast. I went to see the film originally b/c I had gotten my hands on an American Splendor anthology of the 1st 8 comics and instantly fell banas over Pekars stories, coupled with artist renderings of him, his friends, his haphazardly aqcuired wife, Joyce Brabner, and a kid who came when chemo started. The movie features cameos and comentary by the artist himself, wife and co-author of "American Splendor: Our Cancer Year", and good friend Toby Radcloff, the genuine nerd. It even features comical images of the writer straight from the comic strip, and a sneak look back on the stage play American splendor about his life, which ran for about two-weeks. I'd recommend it to anyone!! It's now out on DVD, after having won awards from both the Cannes and Sundace film festivals. Again... it's fantastic!
